About the event
In the early 19th century, Thomas Moore - the celebrated "Bard of Ireland" - was one of the most famous poets and lyricists in the English-speaking world. In 1842, he spoke and sang at the annual dinner of the Benevolent Society of St Patrick, an occasion that brought together royalty, aristocracy, politicians, professionals, merchants and tradesmen, in support of the Society's charitable work, raising the equivalent today of over £100,000.
Founded in 1783, The Society continues today its tradition of service to the Irish community in London.
